Official version of OBS Studio 28.1 supports NVIDIA RTX 40 series graphics card AV1 encoder
According to the latest report, the popular video streaming software OBS Studio has added hardware-accelerated AV1 encoding support for NVIDIA GeForce RTX 40 series “Ada” GPUs in its latest 28.1 official version.
The latest version of OBS Studio utilizes the hardware acceleration of the “Ada” GPU to encode AV1 video, a royalty-free format that offers quality and bitrates comparable to HEVC.

This function is only applicable to RTX 40 series, and currently only supports NV12 (OBS default) and P010 color formats, the “zoom” function in advanced output mode is not currently supported.
Moreover, Nvidia claims to use the new dual encoders of the GeForce RTX 40 series, which shortens the waiting time for video export by nearly half.
NVIDIA previously announced a partnership with OBS Studio to add AV1 to the OBS Studio 28.1 Beta 1 release, building on the recently released HEVC and HDR support. OBS will also optimize the encoding workflow, reducing the usage of all NVIDIA GPUs by 35%.
The new release will also feature updated NVIDIA Broadcast effects, including noise reduction and room echo cancellation, as well as improvements to virtual backgrounds.
