A new bug in OxygenOS 12 downgraded the processor of the OnePlus smartphone for some users, sorry Apple (your intentional slow RAM update trick is now old). Well, it is not the hardware issue, along with several other bugs, the update messed with the software update information page.
It’s kinda funny but I have to write this article. OnePlus recently updated its latest flagship smartphone series, the OnePlus 9 series, to an Android 12-based OxygenOS 12 update. The update is weird in every sense, it already broke some phones, brings tons of bugs, and there’s one funny thing as well.

Alongside several bugs, it is downgrading the processor of some OnePlus 9 users — WHAT? Can anyone do this via software update? NO…
It is an issue where the Snapdragon 888 chipset branding is getting replaced by Snapdragon 855 chipset under the Software update detail page. You can check this by heading into the device Settings, then selecting About phone.
Check the screenshot below.
Well, it is not like Apple’s intentional RAM performance downgrade issue, but still, changing the hardware information after the software update, hmmm.
So after the update to Android 12, my OnePlus 9 shows I have a snapdragon 855! Gotta fix this asap @oneplus @OnePlus_USA #OnePlus9 #Android12 pic.twitter.com/iHHGqSArBB
