Returnal major video game will launch today after long-term effects of epidemic
In Sony games, Returnal always seemed like the biggest lock to hit its release date. While Sony was uncertain about the dates for games like Ratchet & Clank: Drift Apart and Horizon Forbidden West, it was set on the March 19 release date of the third-person shooter.
It has also consistently featured in sizzle reels over the past few months, making it look like it’s relatively safe from delays. Unfortunately, Sony delayed it some months from 30th April to allow developer Housemarque to polish the game. At the moment, this list is starting to look quite similar to our list of the most anticipated PS5 games.

The head of the studio Housemarque, responsible for Returnal, wrote an open letter thanking Sony for its support. General Manager Ilari Kuittinen emphasizes that the developers from the very beginning wanted to transfer the dynamic gameplay that the Finnish team is famous for from two dimensions to a three-dimensional world.
He admits that the idea was “absurdly ambitious” and the creators did not appreciate the scale of the difficulties they faced. “We weren’t sure if we could get out of the prototype phase and convince Sony to fund our new, untested concept.”
“We are really grateful to Sony, which, at a time when publishers are less and less at risk in realizing their creative vision, allowed us to work on a very risky project and provided fantastic support during development. We are eternally grateful for this opportunity. ”
Kuittinen thanked the staff who faced many challenges during development. Words of gratitude were also expressed to external partners.
“The game doesn’t release every day, and it’s always an important moment to celebrate. Making a game is like magic, when something is created out of nothing, and it all starts with a small idea, which then merges with others into a larger concept.”
