Samsung allegedly throttling performance of over 10,000 apps
According to the new information, Samsung is stalling the performance of thousands of Android apps on Galaxy smartphones. This issue affects many popular apps, including first-party apps from Google and Samsung.
Samsung’s Game Optimization Service is a pre-installed service on many Galaxy phones, helps improve gaming performance, it is being used to limit the performance of non-gaming apps.

However, a user of Samsung’s Korean Forum has posted a list of apps affected by performance throttling. The list includes over 10,000 popular apps, including Instagram, TikTok, Netflix, Microsoft Office, Google Keep, Spotify, Snapchat, YouTube Music and more.
Additionally, Samsung’s own apps like Samsung Pay, Secure Folder, Bixby are also on the list. In particular, there is no benchmark app on this blacklist. According to a post on Naver, it seems that Samsung is aware of the problem and is conducting an internal investigation.
While it is not clear why Samsung is trotting Android apps, it may be in an effort to improve battery life. Samsung is conducting an internal investigation and is taking the issue as seriously as the Galaxy Note 7 failed. Samsung is also expected to make an official announcement soon.
