Samsung Galaxy Watch Ultra receives first security update since launch

Samsung’s Galaxy Watch Ultra has finally received its first-ever security update. While it’s normal for smartwatches to get security updates, it’s surprising that this is the very first update since its release.

Galaxy Watch Ultra: November 2024 Update

The Galaxy Watch Ultra launched on July 10, 2024, alongside Samsung’s new One UI 6 Watch interface. At launch, the watch shipped with the June 2024 security patch. Unfortunately, the August update did not bring any improvements to the security level, leaving the watch without updates for several months.

Now, Samsung has released a significant security update, finally bringing the November 2024 security patch to the Galaxy Watch Ultra. The update comes in a package sized over 250 MB and carries the firmware version L705FXXU1AXK6. With this, Samsung has made the Watch Ultra more secure and slightly up to date.

Future Updates

Samsung previously promised to provide security updates every quarter. If the company keeps this promise, the next update should arrive by February 2025.

How to Install the Update

The update is now available for the Galaxy Watch Ultra, which is sold in a 4G variant. The watch will notify you when the update is ready, but you can also install it manually:

  1. Open the Galaxy Wearable app on your phone.
  2. Go to the Watch Ultra settings.
  3. Tap on Update watch software.
  4. Select Download and install.

This will ensure your Galaxy Watch Ultra stays secure with the latest updates.

With this first security patch, Samsung seems to be catching up and setting the stage for more regular updates moving forward.
