According to the information, the next-generation foldable devices Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Galaxy Z Flip 4 will use Qualcomm’s unannounced Snapdragon 8 Gen 1+ processor. In addition to confirming the processors for the Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Galaxy Z Flip 4, tipster has revealed that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1+ will be powered by TSMC’s 4nm process.

The vanilla Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, which powers the Galaxy S22 trio in some areas, should also be as power-efficient as the 4nm chipset and its upcoming “plus” version, you might argue. However, you should also note that this is a processor made by Samsung.

The chip manufacturing technology of the Korean company is always lower than that of TSMC. Both the latest Qualcomm flagship chipset and Samsung’s alternative Exynos 2200 are power-hungry processors due to Samsung’s low technology.

However, TSMC is far ahead of Samsung in the manufacture of contract chips. Taiwanese giant is a specialized manufacturer of Apple’s A and M series processors. And, Qualcomm would also have preferred to build the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 over Samsung if not for the huge component shortage problem last year.

American chipmaker TSMC can only make Snapdragon 8 Gen 1+. However, the next-generation (3nm) processors from Samsung are leaving in favor of TSMC. Apparently, time is running out for Samsung’s foundry division. If this trend continues, the Korean giant will soon make only its own Exynos chips.

The Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Galaxy Z Flip 4 could break the cover anytime in the third quarter of 2022. We are also hearing about Samsung launching its third foldable device this year. Maybe it’s a rollable smartphone, as recent rumors suggest. If these rumors are true, we will have to hear more about this phone in the coming months. We will keep you informed from time to time.
