This is the second-highest annual growth rate in recent years (second only to 28% in the first quarter of 2021). However, global smartphone shipments declined 11% month-on-month, mainly due to the second wave of the COVID-19 outbreak and supply shortages in India and Southeast Asian countries.
GLOBAL SMARTPHONE SHIPMENT IN Q2,2021
In the second quarter of 2021, Samsung will maintain its leading position with an 18.2% market share. However, Samsung’s annual growth rate (5.4% year-on-year) was at the bottom of the top five manufacturers. Strategy Analytics believes that stiff competition from Chinese manufacturers and supply constraints impacted Samsung’s performance in the quarter.
Xiaomi ranks in the top two for the first time in its history. Its global smartphone shipments are 52.8 million units, with a market share of 16.8%. Among the top five manufacturers, Xiaomi has the highest annual growth rate (+85.3%). Xiaomi quickly and successfully captured the consequences of LG’s withdrawal from Latin America and Huawei’s entry into Europe.
Apple‘s Q2 performance hit a record high, with iPhone shipments of 47.4 million units, capturing 15.1% market share. Emerging markets are playing an increasingly important role in Apple’s global map. We estimate that China has overtaken the United States as the largest single market for Apple’s iPhone this quarter. This is the first time in history. The iPhone 12 series that supports 5G is still popular among loyal iPhone fans.
Chinese manufacturers Oppo and Vivo were ranked fourth and fifth with 10.6% and 10.0% market share respectively. Both manufacturers achieved double-digit annual growth rates mainly from overseas markets such as China and India.
