Google recently released the 2nd Android 11 Developer Preview with a new feature allowing users to perform an action by double-tapping on the back of the device. Since the One UI 3.0 will be based on Android 11, we want to see this amazing gesture with the next major version of One UI.
The new gestures are developed under the codename “Columbus” derived from the Zombieland character known its “double-tap” controls.

According to 9to5Google, the double-tap gesture allows users to trigger a number of actions by tapping twice on the back of the phone. More importantly, it can be configured to take screenshots. It is exciting for those who take screenshots of things multiple times a day.
You can perform operations such as:
- Activate the voice assistant
- Snooze alarm
- Control media
- Stop timer
- Take Screenshots
- Open app switcher view or overview
Instead of requiring additional hardware, it uses sensors such as an accelerometer and gyroscope to detect the user’s double-tap actions on the back of the phone and respond accordingly.
The double-tap gestures also support actions such as – launching the camera, silent phone calls, unpin notifications, and others.
