Samsung One UI 5.0 brings themed icons for third-party apps

Posted on

Based on Android 12’s Material You theme, Samsung brought Color Palette to Galaxy customers last year. This was one of the chief features that the company brought and has significantly improved it with the latest Android 13-based One UI 5.0 upgrade.

By now you all must have come to know what this feature does. Once enabled, it applied a theme to your phone’s menus, buttons, backgrounds, settings, and system app, that syncs with your phone’s wallpaper.

The One UI 4 version only applied the theme to Samsung app icons whereas, the all-new One UI 5.0 brings themed icons for Google and other third-party apps as well.

Although only select third-party applications are comparable with this at the time, it’s expected that Samsung will fix it in future upgrades and bring One UI 5.0 themed app icons for all Google and third-party apps.

It’s worth mentioning that some Samsung apps including Samsung Health, Smart Switch, Voice Recorder, Expert RAW, Phone, Calculator, Camera, Galaxy Store, Samsung Wearable, Smart TV, Samsung Pay, etc still don’t support the theme.

On the other flip, Google apps like Gmail, Maps, Photos, YouTube, PlayStore, Messages, Meet, Duo, etc have started supporting it. Simultaneously, other famous third-party apps like WhatsApp, Reddit, LinkdIn, Signal, Reapainter, and others are also getting the themed app icons with the One UI 5.0 version.

One UI 5.0 16 Color palettes:

With One UI 5.0, Samsung has also brought 16 color pallet presets to the customers, previously, we were only able to choose from 4 options.

The Color Palette feature now has two options – Wallpaper colors and Basic colors. You can select one over 16 color palettes that sync with your phone’s wallpaper or if you don’t like any, you can go for the basic colors.
