Samsung One UI 7 Updates: App Lock demand, Knox watermark removed, Wi-Fi filtering, and fixes for Galaxy devices

Posted on

Samsung is actively improving its One UI 7 software based on user feedback. From privacy tools to bug fixes, here’s a quick look at the latest updates and changes.

1. Users Request an App Lock Feature in One UI 7

Galaxy users are demanding a native App Lock feature for One UI 7. While Samsung offers a Secure Folder for privacy, it creates app clones, which many users find inconvenient.

Some countries, like China, already have a built-in App Lock. Samsung acknowledged the demand and said it is reviewing whether this feature aligns with One UI 7’s goals. If approved, we may see App Lock in future updates, offering extra security for apps like Gallery or Files using a password or biometric lock.

2. Samsung Removes ‘Secured by Knox’ Watermark

The One UI 7 Beta 1 update for Galaxy S24 users added a “Secured by Knox” watermark at the bottom of the App Drawer. Many users found this distracting and requested its removal.

Samsung listened and removed the watermark in the One UI 7 Beta 2 update. Beta testers can now enjoy a cleaner interface without waiting for the stable release.

3. Hidden Wi-Fi Network Filters in One UI 7

Samsung introduced a hidden feature in One UI 7 that allows users to filter Wi-Fi networks. This tool helps users view specific networks based on their preferences, such as:

  • Open or Secured networks
  • 2GHz, 5GHz, or 6GHz bands
  • Wi-Fi standards like Wi-Fi 5, Wi-Fi 6, or Wi-Fi 7

To enable this feature:

  1. Go to Settings > Connections > Wi-Fi > More Options.
  2. Tap the Intelligent Wi-Fi version number multiple times.
  3. Turn on the Use filter menu toggle.

These filters will appear based on your Galaxy device’s Wi-Fi capabilities.

4. Galaxy S24 Beta Fixes Screenshot Lag

One UI 7 Beta users on the Galaxy S24 series reported a lag when capturing screenshots. Samsung fixed this issue in the Beta 2 update, ensuring screenshots are now captured instantly with a smooth animation.

5. Galaxy S21 Series Receives December Security Update

Samsung has started rolling out the December 2024 security update for the Galaxy S21 lineup in the US. This update improves security and addresses high-risk vulnerabilities, including those affecting Exynos processors.

To update your Galaxy S21:

  1. Open Settings > Software Update and check for updates.
  2. Alternatively, download the firmware manually using tools like the SamMobile library.

Samsung continues to refine One UI 7 based on user feedback, prioritizing security, performance, and user experience across its Galaxy devices. Stay tuned for more updates!
