Major mobile phone brands tried to stock up during this period to ensure that there would be no shortage of parts. Of course, Samsung remained the leader of the global smartphone market in the second quarter with shipments of 58 million units, an 8% year-on-year increase, and a market share of 18%.

According to the Canalys report, Xiaomi ranked second with shipments of 52.8 million units and year-on-year growth of 83%. This is also the first time that Xiaomi ranks second in shipments.

Apple is in third place. Canalys predicts that Apple’s mobile phone shipments will be 45.7 million units, a 1% year-over-year increase, and a 14% market share. According to the report, although Apple’s mobile phone shipments did not increase significantly, the company’s revenue grew significantly, driven by a sharp increase in its average selling price. The iPhone 12 Pro model accounted for 37% of the sales, which is much higher than the 11th generation.

Chinese manufacturers Oppo and Vivo ranked fourth and fifth in shipments this quarter, exceeding 30 million units each. The report also states that smartphone distributors are short on the stock in some areas.

In addition, some manufacturers have also canceled sales incentives to avoid the shortage of mobile phones. It is estimated that shipments to the global smartphone market will grow by 12% in 2021.
