Samsung will continue to lead global smartphone production in 2021 while Huawei may slip out from top six rankings: Report
As the new year, 2021 begins we must want to know what it will bring for the smartphone market and the new predictions made by the research firm will give us some idea about how will the smartphone market react in 2021.
According to the latest data released by TrendForce, the COVID-19 pandemic affected last year’s smartphone production adversely. The market has fallen down by a record-breaking 11% YoY decrease. The top six phone makers in terms of production in 2021 were Samsung, Apple, Huawei, Xiaomi, Oppo, and Vivo. The global smartphone market in 2020 reached just 1.25 billion units.
The research firm indicates that after separation Honor from Huawei, it will operate as an independent company and will also come in direct competition with Huawei. Although, It remains to be seen, how the company will make its way this year without the support of its parent firm.
Further, TrendForce believes that the global smartphone market will again get back on track as the people will adapt to the new normal. Overall the global smartphone market in terms of production is expected to increase by 9% to 1.36 billion units this year.
Among these top six, the most affected company is Huawei. As per the reports, Huawei is currently operating at third position and it is expected that the company will slip to seventh position this year in the coming days.
Moreover, the Chinese phone maker will continue to face a decline in device production this year. It is said that the major impact will be due to the US export restrictions and separation of Honor as a separate brand. Meanwhile, Samsung has a negligible impact on its production and the South Korean tech giant will maintain its top position in 2021 as well.
In addition, the research firm also predicts the top new top six smartphone brands of 2021 will be Samsung, Apple, Xiaomi, Oppo, Vivo, and Transsion. Altogether, these brands will account for approx. 80$ of the global smartphone market.
