Security Engineers find major vulnerabilities in Sony PS5, PS4, PS3 Console

Sony has always been very protective of the security of the PlayStation series of consoles and has continuously introduced patches to prevent the device from being cracked. However, as reported by the source, security engineer Andy Nguyen disclosed a vulnerability at the Hardwear.io security conference that allows arbitrary code execution on PS4 and PS5 systems.

Reports say this is an important step in getting homebrew installed on the PS5, and opens up a solid starting point for potentially hacking the console. The PPT also shows that, in theory, the vulnerability also applies to PS3 consoles, although reliability is not guaranteed.

The exploit quickly caught the attention of prominent figures in the modding community, with some comparing it to the FreeDVDBoot crack for the PlayStation 2. FreeDVDBoot enables games to be run from “burned” backup discs without any modification to the console’s hardware, a scheme similar to the newly discovered cracking method.

Moreover,  this vulnerability is expected to bring a thriving self-made community to PS4 and PS5. At present, Sony has not responded officially, and we can look forward to the follow-up.
