Key Points:
- Cybertruck gets parking assistance this week; FSD next month.
- Tesla initially launched Cybertruck without any driver assistance features.
- FSD was a required purchase for early adopters but is just now being made available.
Tesla’s much-anticipated Cybertruck has been missing key driver assistance features since its initial deliveries. Despite early buyers in the Foundation Series being required to purchase Tesla’s Full Self-Driving (FSD) package, they haven’t been able to use these features yet. However, this is about to change.
Starting this week, Tesla will roll out parking assistance for the Cybertruck. This feature is being prioritized due to the vehicle’s unique design, which makes it particularly challenging to park, as acknowledged by Ashok Elluswamy, Tesla’s Director of Autopilot Software. The company plans to follow up by enabling FSD capabilities for the Cybertruck next month.
Interestingly, while some Tesla employees have pointed out that the Cybertruck can be difficult to park, others, like Wes Morrill, Tesla’s Lead for Reliability, Test, and Analysis, have suggested that it’s easier to park than it might seem. Nonetheless, the introduction of these driver assistance features is a welcome update for Cybertruck owners.
