Tesla model S car is already economical as a petrol car: Report

Posted on

The US “Cars & Drivers” magazine recently conducted a highway fuel economy test on Tesla’s long-range Plus Model S. The results showed that after driving 515 kilometers at a speed of 120 kilometers per hour, the fuel economy of this car reached a level comparable to that of a gasoline car.

The 103.9 kWh battery pack equipped with the Long-life Plus version of Model S uses 18650 batteries. During the test, the test driver drove this model across 160 kilometers of interstate highways and kept the speed at about 120 kilometers per hour.

The testers found that: “Usually, the highway fuel economy test of electric vehicles requires a shortened loop, and the test driver has a lot of work to do. But when we recently tested the long-range Plus version of the Model S, the situation was different. Different. Without a shortened loop, we extended the distance and drove 515 kilometers at 120 kilometers per hour, which is the best result ever achieved by electric vehicles.”

The long-range Plus version of Model S has a range comparable to Mustang Shelby GT500 (16-gallon fuel tank) and Jeep Renegade (12・7 gallon fuel tank). The Mustang has a fuel economy of 20 miles per gallon at a speed of 120 kilometers per hour, while Renegade has a fuel economy of 29 miles per gallon.

The Tesla Model S is the first battery-powered battery with an estimated range of more than 640 kilometers (with a 100 kWh battery pack) estimated by the EPA. The test of “Cars and Drivers” magazine proved that the previous Model S series can almost match the fuel economy in terms of fuel economy, even if their driving speed is comparable to that of fuel vehicles.

Tesla announced the long-awaited Model S Plaid and Model S Plaid+ earlier this year. But since then, there have been some delays in the delivery of Model S Plaid, mainly because the global chip shortage has affected many automakers. However, Elon Musk recently announced that it will hold a Model S Plaid delivery event on June 3, 2021.

The new Model S variants may be equipped with significantly improved battery packs and fuel economy will be further improved. Tesla is also working hard to increase the range of all its vehicles by developing and enhancing battery technology. For example, Tesla has produced 4680 batteries at a facility near the Fremont plant in the United States. Musk recently confirmed that the Model Y produced at the Texas plant will be equipped with 4680 batteries.
