Over the past few years, expectations have grown for full-screen, bezel-less displays. For a reason, we’ve seen some displays with a notch that housed the front-facing camera, followed by the popular water-style notch, and now punch-hole displays are in trend. But, now the display technology is taking the lead and we are seeing a full-fledged smartphone screen with under-display cameras.

In the year 2022, ZTE Axon 20 5G smartphone win this race by bringing the world’s first-ever device with an under-camera display (UDC) tech. And in the future, we will see more devices with an under-display front camera, and the same thing we are expecting with the OnePlus too.
Let’s understand how Under-Display Camera (UDC) works!
Smartphone with Under-display cameras has their own challenges because when the front-facing camera is activated, pixels in the display area just above the camera disappear. No, but which display maker are you working on now?
If you have seen any device with UDC technology you’ll notice that the display temporarily turns off pixels in certain areas to allow the front-facing camera to pass through, and turn those pixels back on when the front-facing camera is finished
This only depends on deive software optimization that fulfills the required under-display camera functions. Moreover, AI algorithms are also used to ensure that the camera performs well in various lighting conditions by adjusting contrast, exposure, and other dynamic factors before capturing the image.
As of now, the OnePlus smartphone has adopted several methods to make the screen of the phone bezel-less. The first display had a notch and then the new display includes a discrete hole-punch design.
After that, the company brings the pop-up cameras to achieve a bezel-less screen, but neither approach was perfect. And technologies like pop-up cameras make phones bulky and hard to repair. An innovative solution is to place the front camera under the display. This was not possible until recently, but it may soon become a reality.
Now we are expecting when we will see the under-display camera (UDC) in our OnePlus phone. Right now there is no information on this approval so we will have to wait and see.
