According to the latest info, many Verizon users in Southern California are reporting difficulties making calls Tuesday afternoon, and the company has confirmed that there is a “network issue” affecting parts of the region.
“We are experiencing a network issue impacting voice services for some customers in parts of Southern California,” a Verizon spokesperson said in a statement to The Verge. “Our engineers have identified the issue and are working to resolve it as quickly as possible.”
If you’re having trouble making calls, a spokesperson recommends putting your device in airplane mode or restarting your phone, which they say should fix the problem. And in response to one person on Twitter, Verizon’s support account has been recommended to use Wi-Fi “if possible.”

The users are reporting problems of making phone calls in Southern California, but it’s not clear how long the outage lasts or which areas may be affected. Downdetector’s user reports map strongly shows that this outage is affecting Los Angeles, San Diego, and surrounding areas.
By 4:39 PM ET, Dounditector had reported more than 8,000 problems with Verizon. Reports on the Downdetector’s have declined since then, but I still see reports of issues on Twitter.
