This is why Apple didn’t used XDR display in its M1 iPad Pro

Apple marketing staff Scott Broderick and display engineer Vincent Gu recently accepted an interview with Brian Tong, host of the Apple Bitz XL podcast, during which they discussed the new iPad Pro, involving the M1 chip and Liquid Retina XDR display.

Although the two Apple employees avoided many of the questions raised in the interview, they revealed that the reason why the new 11-inch iPad Pro did not use the Liquid Retina XDR display was partly due to weight considerations. The new 11-inch iPad Pro model weighs 466 grams, while the 12.9-inch model weighs 682 grams, partly because the XDR display is heavier.

Broderick said: “What we know about 11-inch users is that they like to carry a super-powerful iPad with them, and it is a one-pound portable design. They just like this design, and users of 12.9-inch models What they want is a larger screen in order to carry out the most creative work on this product. It is more reasonable to introduce XDR technology to the iPad Pro’s 12.9-inch display.”

The 12-inch iPad Pro uses a mini-LED backlit multi-touch display, IPS technology, and 2596 full-array local dimming zones.
