Lu Weibing, the senior VP of Xiaomi Group and General Manager of Redmi was interviewed on November 3. In the interview, he said that Xiaomi plans to surpass all other smartphone brands including Apple to become the world’s no. 1.

He further said that the company intends to target China’s offline mobile phone market as 70% of smartphone sales are still conducted offline in the country. Xiaomi wants to reach 30,000 retail stores in China in the next 3 years.

Recently, Xiaomi inaugurated its 10,000th store. The brand still lags in retail and is beaten at by BBK Electronics subsidiaries Oppo and Vivo in China. The same holds globally as well, hence the push for offline stores.

Later, the General Manager said only when the goal is hard to reach can there be “value and significance of the challenge.” With the statement, he indicates that the competition, through offline stores, manages to sell a product that Xiaomi already offers at very high prices. This is because offline stores have the power of belief, which is lacking in online mediums.

The goal is quite hard to reach. According to the Strategy Analytics report of Q3 2021, Apple surpassed Xiaomi and grabbed second place in the global smartphone markets. However, in Q2 2021, Xiaomi was second and Apple was third.

Samsung is real challenge:

Judging by the previous quarters and months’ results, somehow, Xiaomi can beat Apple but Samsung, it seems to be the real competitor for the company. The Korean tech is continually leading global markets with a shipment of 69 million units.

Samsung may have seen sales drop globally, but it also sells in markets like the US, which is a country where Xiaomi still has zero presence.

Well, we cannot ignore that Xiaomi is India’s leading brand, and recently, we have been also reported that Xiaomi ranked no. 1 in the European 5G smartphone market. In addition, in June this year, Xiaomi even beat Samsung and grabbed the first position globally.
