YouTube revises medical misinformation policy to target harmful treatments
YouTube revises its medical misinformation policy in an effort to make the app more efficient for users. Eventually, the main aim of this update is to remove all those videos that reflect harmful cancer treatments and create a false view in users’ minds.
As per the official blog, YouTube revises its medical policy and says that it will categorize things into three parts – Prevention, Treatment, and Denial.
- Prevention
Removing content that contradicts health authority guidance on the prevention and transmission of specific health conditions, and on the safety and efficacy of approved vaccines.
- Treatment
Removes content that contradicts health authority guidance on treatments for specific health conditions, including promoting specific harmful substances or practices.
- Denial
Content that disputes the existence of specific health conditions such as claiming that denies that people have died from COVID-19. Starting today, the company will begin eliminating videos and content that breaks its policies regarding cancer treatments.
