Opinion: Apple’s 2015 phone ($650) with 2GB RAM will be updated to the latest version of iOS but Samsung’s 2018 phone ($1250) with 8GB RAM will disappoint you

Hello Folks, I am writing this article because I have been using many Samsung products including Galaxy Tab S6, Galaxy Watch Active 2, and Galaxy Book Flex. I am currently using the Galaxy Note 10+ 5G and Galaxy S20 Ultra 5G, bought them for $1299.99 and $1599.99 respectively. You can proudly call me a “Samsung Fan”, but I can’t keep my mouth shut. Just like you, I can also read, listen, see everything, and write sometimes.

Yesterday, I saw one article (on the Android-focused website) about Apple’s latest version of iOS. It was an interesting read. The author was very disappointed (like me and other Android users who are paying a heavy amount for their smartphones), but why? Read below.

On June 22, at WWDC 2020, Apple announced iOS 14, the latest version of iOS. The company confirmed that phones from 2015 will all be updated to the latest version of iOS.

Wait, I didn’t write anything incorrect here; Apple’s 2015 phone, iPhone 6s (with iOS 9, 2GB RAM, and 16GB internal storage, which launched at $650,) is eligible for the iOS 14 in 2020. Even the original iPhone SE from 2016 ($399) will be getting the major OS update.

I didn’t want to compare any Android device with iOS but I am doing now. Android phone manufacturers are doing a poor job compared to Apple. Even the father of Android, Google, is not able to update its Android phones from 2015.

Let’s come back to the main discussion:- Samsung!

I still have a Samsung Galaxy Note 9, launched in Q3 2018, it was my first $1000 phone, the successor of the great and fabulous Galaxy Note 8. I paid $1249.99 for the 8GB/512GB variant, the standard variant was available for $999.99. The Galaxy Note 9 is still doing great, the hardware is still good. It can perform any task, mostly similar to the Galaxy Note 10+ 5G, of course, no 5G support but it has the same S Pen, outstanding display, and battery life is acceptable. Sadly, the device isn’t eligible for the next version of Android OS – Android 11.

Samsung has the policy to give at least 2 major OS updates to its smartphones, which means my Galaxy Note 10+ 5G won’t get Android 12, and the Galaxy S20 Ultra 5G won’t receive Android 13. This is unacceptable. This has to end as soon as possible. You care or not about the Android updates, they are important and must be provided to us.

Samsung’s premium phones are coming with strong hardware and capable to run at least 3 platform update. When Google can provide 3 platform update to its smartphones, why not Samsung?

You can make an excuse or say that major OS updates are not necessary or can give your own theory to justify Samsung’s bad decision but it won’t change the fact that you are disappointed with Samsung’s software update policy. There are many upset users, they are not happy because their premium smartphones (worth more than $1000) are not eligible for the next major software update.

Two years of software updates are no longer enough for the phones worth $1000 or more. That needs to change. I am not expecting the 4-5 years of support like Apple, but it should be at least 3 years of support.

Agree with me or not, you deserve better! Let me know your opinion in the comments below.
