Amazon announced that it would build a data center in Western Canada to improve the company’s cloud service connection speed and information storage capacity in the Canadian market. Amazon said that the company will open a regional expansion infrastructure around Calgary, Alberta, and expand the Canadian market in addition to its existing business in Montreal.
Moreover, Amazon said that the new AWS Canada West region will allow more developers and institutions in Canada to run applications through the Amazon data center to assist end-users. This move also allows related companies to save data nearby and no longer use infrastructure located in Montreal, Canada, or the United States.

Eric Gales, the head of AWS Canada, said in a telephone interview: “We expect that 5G-enabled networking devices will proliferate. The establishment of a new infrastructure area in Western Canada is right for this. An effective complement to a trend.” “This means that information on these devices does not need to be transmitted from Calgary to Montreal.”
Currently, Amazon Web Services (AWS) has 81 “available regions” around the world. The Amazon infrastructure in Alberta, Canada is expected to be put into use at the end of 2023 or early 2024.
Amazon said that Amazon’s AWS division plans to invest more than $3 billion in the construction, operation, and maintenance of infrastructure in Alberta by 2037, creating 950 full-time jobs in Canada. This funding is part of AWS’s plan to invest approximately US$17 billion in Canada over the next 16 years.
