Despite new US semiconductor rules, ASML expects strong demand from China

The new US semiconductor export rules continue to hit several AI products these days and one of them is the ASML 1980Di tool, which is relatively used for making advanced computer chips as well as mid-range and older chips.

In a recent press conference, the CEO of ASML -Peter Wennink said that the company is still looking for growth and strong semiconductor demand from China, amid new US export rules and restrictions.

“In principle, the 1980s would fall under the export control restrictions, but only when … (they) are used for advanced semiconductor manufacturing,” Wennink said.

Counting on the chipmakers, Peter further said that only a small group of Chinese chipmakers would be considered as ‘advanced’.

According to the details, China is the third largest market for ASML after Taiwan and South Korea. Since the export limitations are likely to impact only 15% of sales in China, ASML stays optimistic on this matter.
