The report pointed out that the forecast for 2022 has been revised down by about 100 million due to the weakening of the global economy and the uncertainty of the international situation. Data show that in the first quarter, 5G users increased by 70 million to around 620 million.
Moreover, while 4G users increased by 70 million to around 4.9 billion. Among them, in 2021, China will add about 270 million new users, while North America will add 65 million new users.
Growth in 4G subscriptions is expected to peak this year, then decline as users switch to 5G, the report said. 5G users reaching 1 billion this year will reach the target two years earlier than 4G. By 2027, 5G subscribers are expected to reach 4.4 billion.
In an interview, Peter Jonsson, the report’s executive editor, said that telecom operators’ price cuts for 5G and mobile phones have helped 5G spread. “In addition, he also said that India’s 5G potential market cannot be ignored, and it is expected that 5G users in India will reach 30 million in 2022.
