A hacker group claimed to have made the first breakthrough in the process required to crack the Sony PS5 console. The fail0verflow organization became known for being the first to bypass the PS3 security measures in 2010 and later escaped PS4 and Switch.
The organization posted a tweet on Monday, claiming that “the other has been settled “, along with a screenshot that appeared to show the PS5 root key.

In a follow-up tweet, fail0verflow confirmed: ” We have obtained all (symmetric) PS5 root keys. They can all be obtained from software-including the root key of each host if you look carefully enough.”
Moreover, finding the root key is usually the first step to “jailbreak” the host, but the discovery of fail0verflow does not mean that the PS5 has been completely cracked.
The symmetric root key enables hackers to decrypt files, including firmware, which means that hackers can try to reverse engineer them and find vulnerabilities to run unsigned code on the host.
Furthermore, fail0verflow also claimed that it may not be particularly easy for Sony to reverse this situation through system updates. When another Twitter user asked if he could easily “rotation” root key, fail0verflow replied: ” not .”
