Honeywell introduced a new flow battery technology: Report
According to Honeywell’s official news report, Honeywell recently announced the launch of a flow battery that can store up to 12 hours of electricity, far exceeding the traditional lithium battery’s only 4 hours Store time and use this as an opportunity to enter the energy storage market.
Honeywell will test a 400kWh energy storage device at Duke Energy’s Mount Holly microgrid testbed facility in North Carolina in 2022. This energy storage device will use solar and wind energy to supply electricity, which can greatly reduce the utilization rate of fossil fuel power plants.
Honeywell stated that if the test is successful, their goal is to deploy a 60MWh utility battery energy storage project in 2023. It is expected that carbon emissions will be reduced by 50% in 2030 compared to 2005 and achieved in 2050 zero carbon emissions.

Honeywell said that the flow battery uses a non-flammable and recyclable electrolyte. The company said that the battery has a lifespan of up to 20 years with almost no degradation.
Ben Owens, Vice President and General Manager of Honeywell Sustainable Technology Solutions, said: “We are very interested in the development of long-term energy storage systems with a continuous discharge time between 4 and 12 hours. We think this is a special and The right opportunity can combine our R&D experience in materials science and chemicals with the new energy transition.”
Intermittent and seasonal changes in renewable energy production. Flow batteries use liquid electrolytes as a source of power, and have a longer life and storage capacity than traditional lithium-ion batteries, and have relatively fewer safety hazards. It’s just that the initial cost of the flow battery is higher, and its performance in the market is not mature. “
