Huawei HiSilicon can be authorized to use ARM’s new Armv9 architecture

Arm announced the company’s largest technological reform in the decade of the Armv9 architecture to meet the global demand for increasingly powerful security, artificial intelligence (AI), and ubiquitous dedicated processing.

Armv9 is based on the successful foundation of Armv8 and is the latest Arm architecture in the past ten years. Arm believes that its new architecture will enable chip manufacturers to obtain more than 30% of the computing power in the next two generations of chips, which is suitable for mobile CPUs and users of large cloud providers like AWS.

According to a report from China Business News, in Arm’s VisionDay, the person in charge of Arm responded to the current progress of cooperation with Huawei: Arm has both IP originating in the United States and IP originating not in the United States.

After a comprehensive review, Arm determined that its Armv9 architecture is not subject to the US Export Administration Regulations (EAR). Arm has notified relevant U.S. government agencies of this, and we will continue to comply with the U.S. Department of Commerce’s guidelines for Huawei and its affiliate HiSilicon. This means that Huawei HiSilicon can obtain the authorization of the v9 architecture.
