Huawei patents more than 200000 applications worldwide
Huawei today held the “Exploring Innovation Horizons: 2022 Innovation and Intellectual Property Forum” in Shenzhen and announced the major inventions that won awards in its biennial “Top Ten Inventions” selection event.
Huawei said that by the end of 2021, Huawei has accumulated more than 200,000 applications worldwide, more than 110,000 authorized applications, and more than 60,000 PCT applications. The relevant report of the Intellectual Property Development Research Center of the State Intellectual Property Office shows that China has made remarkable achievements in the 5G communication industry.

There are currently more than 210,000 5G standard essential patents declared globally, involving a total of 47,000 patent families. Among them, China has declared 18,000 patent families, accounting for 40% of the world’s total, ranking first.
According to statistics, among global patent applicants, Huawei ranks first with 6,583 patents, accounting for 14%. Tian Lipu, president of the China branch of the International Association for the Protection of Intellectual Property and former director of the State Intellectual Property Office of China, said that Huawei applied for its first invention patent in 1995 and obtained the authorization for its first invention patent in 1998.
Tian Lipu said, “This is a banner in China’s intellectual property field, and it is very rare in the world. Huawei is constantly showing the world the value of intellectual property from China. Huawei is actually continuing to promote the intellectual property system in the world. change and development in China.”
In the past five years, more than 2 billion smartphones have been licensed by Huawei’s 4G/5G patents. In addition, about 8 million connected vehicles are licensed by Huawei’s 4G/5G patents each year. Song Liuping, Huawei’s chief legal officer, also revealed that in 2021, Huawei’s R&D investment will reach RMB 142.7 billion, accounting for 22.4% of the annual revenue.
Huawei’s R&D investment currently ranks second among global companies, and its annual investment in basic research in recent years has exceeded RMB 20 billion. With investment in research and development, the number of new patent applications filed by Huawei in the past two years has also exceeded 10,000 per year, reaching a record high.
