The patent abstract shows a method with an explanation of how the flexible display can be improved to provide an enhanced folding experience. The improvements in the flexible displays mean that they will be made more reliable than before while folding.
Huawei’s new flexible glass method to improve bending explained
Usually, the foldable displays in any of the smartphones are not that strong as any other non-folding device. This is because they need to be made thinner to be able to bend properly.
- The enhanced folding performance can be achieved by cut, etch, debond, and chemically toughening the multi-layered glues flexible glass.
- The Multiple-layered glue consist of a bottom plate on the bottom layer, and at least one repeating unit which is bonded to both upper and bottom layer.
- The repeating unit layer includes flexible glass located in the lower layer and a substrate glued to the upper layer of the flexible glass. And the repeating layers are glued and laminated together.
This procedure of implementing flexible glass can significantly improve the bending performance of the folding displays.
Huawei surely needs an improved folding tech on its smartphones as they come with an outward folding design. These smartphones need to have a strong foldable display.
Though this method of developing the flexible display is not yet gone into works with Huawei, and the company may or may not include this method in its upcoming foldable devices. Though, it seems to be a useful one to use some good quality bendable displays in foldable smartphones.
