Huawei will use the HarmonyOS/HongmengOS in smartphones and tablets: Huawei Founder
During his visit to the World Economic Forum in Davos, Huawei founder, and CEO, Ren Zhengfei said the company will use HarmonyOS in smartphones in the future.
HarmonyOS AKA Hongmeng OS – a new microkernel-based, distributed operating system designed and developed by Huawei to deliver a new user experience across all devices and scenarios.
Ren in an exclusive interview with Sina Tech said that HongmengOS is already launched and will be applied to Huawei’s smartphones, tablets, TVs and other devices in the future, via GizChina.
Last December, President of Huawei Consumer Business Software, Wang Chenglu said except Smartphones, Tablets, and Computers, Huawei will install the HarmonyOS on all of its devices and will also promote the OS in China and around the globe.
Wang said Huawei still prefers Android as its soulmate and HarmonyOS will be used only if the company cannot access Android.
HarmonyOS is first used in Honor/Huawei Vision SmartScreens (smart TVs) and will be used in Smartwatches, In-vehicle systems, and Smart speakers. Huawei has planned to expand this OS to more platforms.
The software chief also said that HarmonyOS is constantly being improved and we could expect HarmonyOS to go open source by August 2020.
