MediaTek could become first chipmaker to launch 4nm based chips

MediaTek is planning to launch a new range of chipsets with a single-chip system based on a 4-nanometer process. Production is expected to start either in the fourth quarter of 2021 or early next year. There is also evidence that various manufacturers, including Oppo, Xiaomi, Samsung, and Vivo, have already lined up for new MediaTek SoCs.

In addition, it was revealed that TSMC will manufacture 4nm MediaTek platforms at a starting price of about $ 80, while the current high-performance 5nm SoCs are around $ 30-35.

A well-known Chinese analyst claims that the new MediaTek platform will be able to challenge today’s Snapdragon 800 series as well as significantly reduce power consumption. As for Qualcomm, the company, according to tradition, should present a new flagship platform in December this year, and it will debut in the Xiaomi Mi 12 and Samsung Galaxy S22.
