Meta will launch digital clothing store allow users to buy designer designs for their avatars costumes

Facebook parent company Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced Friday that the company will launch a digital clothing store that will let users purchase designer designs for their avatar costumes.

Virtual clothes designed by fashion brands Balenciaga, Prada, and Thom Browne will be the first to go on sale, Zuckerberg said in a live video with Instagram fashion executives.

A Meta spokesperson said the clothes, which cost between $2.99 and $8.99, are much lower than the actual prices of the designer clothes. For example, Prada’s Matinee ostrich leather handbag sells for as much as $10,700.

Zuckerberg said he wants to make the store an open marketplace where developers can create and sell a wide variety of digital clothing.
