US-based Micron Technology Incorporation has opened a new chip plant at Batu Kawan Industrial Park Penang, Malaysia to boost semiconductor development in the region. Eventually, this initiation will also the company help to meet the growing demand for AI and EVs.
Accordingly, this is the second plant of Micron related to semiconductor in Malaysia. Describing how this test facility will help the company, the Senior Vice President of Micron Technology – Gursharan Singh said:
“This expansion reflects our unwavering dedication to advancing semiconductor development and manufacturing excellence.”
He further cited that the new facility focuses on sustainability. It adheres to the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) rating system, which is a benchmark for green construction.
Perhaps, Micron will reduce energy consumption in the new facility by more than 25% in comparison to industry standards. The Malaysian plants will also be powered by 100% renewable electricity.
