Microsoft Edge browser’s new Drop feature has been rolled out to Canary preview users, which helps users share files and notes across devices using the browser, similar to Telegram’s saved messages feature.

Today, the source Windows Latest has a hands-on experience with the feature, which can transfer almost everything, including applications, text, notes, files, and other types of attachments.

According to tests, Microsoft is not developing a new cloud storage service for Edge, but using OneDrive. In order to access the feature, users must be signed in to a Microsoft account, and storage space depends on OneDrive space.

To use this feature, users need to click the paper airplane icon in the toolbar in the upper right corner of the browser, and then they can enter text in a chat window-like interface, or send a file.

After testing a text message, all other devices that have Edge installed and that support the feature were able to receive the message. Additionally, Drop can share file content in most formats.

For example, the source Window latest uploaded an app called “MPV Player” (mpv.exe) and downloaded the player on another device, and the video can be played normally.

In one of the tabs in Edge Drop, we can see the OneDrive storage capacity data, which indicates that Drop transfers will count towards OneDrive storage.

Moreover,  this function can also be hidden. If you don’t need it, you can turn off the Drop icon by customizing the toolbar icon in Settings -> Appearance in the upper right corner.
