Microsoft’s first official version of the Edge browser for Linux launched

Microsoft Edge browser finally landed on the Linux system, and the “official” version has appeared. Using Edge on Linux for some time, first the development version, then the test version.  A new build package with the name is Microsoft-edge-stable-95.0.1020.38-1.x86_64.rpm. Microsoft-edge-stable_95.0.1020.38-1_amd64.deb also appeared in the stable version.

The core of Microsoft’s new Edge is no longer Microsoft’s internal HTML and JavaScript engine, but like many other modern browsers, based on the open-source Chromium project derived from Google.

Some things to like about Edge for Linux it is fast may work for you where Chrome does not support it; and it is easy to configure and automatically delete all cookies, Network data, authentication tokens, and other historical baggage.

Before using it for the first time, you need to pay attention to checking all the default settings, because there are some privacy settings that security-conscious users will want to change.

It is recommended to visit the following sub-options under Settings

  • Configuration file: Make sure to access all sub-options to make sure you are satisfied with the default values. For example, you can turn off the function of automatically filling in data, remembering passwords by default, or keeping payment card data.

  • Privacy, search and service: In Edge and Firefox, we always directly choose strict tracking protection, and we have not found any website (at least the website we want to continue to use) to be ineffective. This page also has the option of “Choose what to clear every time you close the browser” and lets you turn off data collection related to diagnostics and advertisements.

  • Privacy, Search, and Services> Address Bar and Search: By default, Edge (like many other browsers) will enable its search and suggest while typing options. You can turn off these features so that you won’t hand over your search terms to others until you’re really ready.

  • Cookies and website permissions: All controversial options, such as obtaining your location and using the camera, are set to ask first by default, but there are some that you may want to turn off completely so that you don’t enable them by mistake. (Some users never allow options including location, payment handlers, USB devices, and motion sensors.)

  • System and performance: Here, you can turn off to continue running background extensions and applications when Microsoft Edge is closed, which is enabled by default. You can set the browser to completely close the background when it is closed.
