MSI exposed the industry’s first PCIe Gen5 converter card

According to the latest report, MSI showed the PCIe Gen5 conversion card for the first time in the live event, and the finished product was shown in the live broadcast. This product supports PCIe Gen5×4 channels, can provide 128Gb/s transmission bandwidth, and has an M.2 interface for installing SSD. If the next-generation M.2 NVMe solid-state drive uses this channel, the speed can exceed 14GB/s.

Moreover, this MSI conversion card has a dual-ball bearing cooling fan and an aluminum housing. There is a 6-pin independent power supply port on the right side of the conversion card, and there are several switches and some circuits on the upper left corner of the PCB. According to the official, the cooling fan of the riser card can be turned off manually.

Furthermore, many manufacturers have introduced Z690 series motherboards, which are compatible with Intel’s 12th generation Core desktop processors. This generation of processors natively provides 16 PCIe 5.0 channels, and the report predicts that Nvidia will launch a new RTX 3090 Ti graphics card in 2022, using PCIe 5.0 channels for the first time.

According to previous news, both Marvell and Phison announced the launch of the PCIe 5.0 SSD master chip, whose performance will far exceed similar products of PCIe 4.0, achieving a maximum speed of 14GB/s. The main control adopts 12nm process technology, and the finished solid-state drive is expected to be unveiled in the second half of 2022.
