OnePlus has announced that it will invest up to $30 million to scale up 5G research and development labs. The company said it will extend its plans to push 5G R&D extensively. The funds will go into areas such as radio frequency circuits, antennas, and multimedia.
Pete Lau, Founder and CEO, OnePlus, said:
“5G is a top priority in our product strategy. We have been investing in 5G for years, and we plan to further develop application scenarios based on the daily usage habits of users, such as cloud gaming, cloud videos and cloud storage services.
OnePlus has achieved many firsts with 5G, including one of the first smartphone manufacturers to have 5G support across a full product line up. With our commitment to R&D in our 5G labs, I’m confident that we will bring a faster and smoother user experience with 5G.”
The labs also conduct software research for the communication protocol, throughput optimization, performance, power, stability and user scenario testing. The company is conducting 5G testing efforts in the R&D center, in Hyderabad, India, which was established last year.
Recently, Lau confirmed that the OnePlus 8 series will have 5G. OnePlus released its first 5G phone, the OnePlus 7 Pro, last summer.
