Qualcomm announces Snapdragon 870 5G chipset as a rebranded version of SD 865+
Qualcomm has previously unveiled a new budget 5G chipset under the 400 series which is the Snapdragon 480, the processor is already in use with many smartphones of several OEMs. And now the chip manufacturer has unveiled its new SoC which is Snapdragon 870 5G.
Built on a 7-nanometer process, Snapdragon 870 will offer flagship performance and will be high as the Snapdragon 865+. It equips Kyro 585 CPU and Adreno 650 GPU that delivers a smooth and fast graphics rendering.
The SoC sports X55 modem for a high speed connectivity which supports both mmWave and Sub-6 GHz 5G connections. Besides this, it also supports latest WiFi 6 technology for low that features and integrates advance audio capabilities and Bluetooth version 5.2.

Coming to the camera specs, the chipset comes with Qualcomm Spectra 480 image signal processor (ISP) with the support for up to 200MP camera. Further it can take slo-mo videos at 720p at 960 FPS. With this SoC on a device, it can be equipped with dual cameras of 25MP and a single 64MP MFNR, ZSL, 30fps lens.
Snapdragon 870 SoC has a on device display capacity of 4K at 60Hz along with QHD resolution and it can carry up to 144Hz display refresh rate. In addition it can support HDR and HDR10+. In terms of charging it will carry Quick Charge 4+ technology.
For security functions, the phone makers can provide fingerprints scanner technology such as Qualcomm 3D Sonic and Qualcomm 3D Sonic max. It can also support Biometeric Authentication such as fingerprint, Iris, Voice, or face unlock.
Also the chipset can carry LPDDR5 which is the latest memory type on the smartphones. As the the SoC is now official, the smartphone makers will also launch their smartphones using this chip in the coming days. Although it remains to be seen, what actual performance it will give when coupled with the other hardwares and which OEMs will use it.
