Samsung may ditch 3nm mass production in favor of 2nm technology
Samsung is planning to skip the 3nm mass production and directly leap on the 2nm process technology. Consequently, a big reason behind this consideration is to give a tough spot to TSMC’s influence in the chipset market.
Both Samsung and TSMC began 2022 with the mass production of 3nm process chipsets. While the South Korean tech giant remained ahead in this race, TSMC ended up being the first to develop a 3nm processor for handsets. A recent example is A17 for iPhone 15 Pro models.
Meanwhile, Galaxy phone developer is still relying upon Exynos 2400 and Samsung 8 Gen 3 (both has a 4nm process) for their coming devices. The company is currently struggling due to smaller production capacity.
However, industry experts consider that Samsung is cooking up new plans on this matter and can ditch the 3nm mass production in favor of 2nm technology. This could be a winning move against TSMC in the time ahead.
