There are reports that Samsung’s mobile division is considering buying batteries from LG Energy Solutions for the Galaxy A and Galaxy M phones. Samsung has been using LG batteries since 2019, including some models of the best-selling Galaxy S and Galaxy Note series.
It is reported that cost reduction is one of the main reasons why Samsung wants to use more LG batteries, which will also diversify Samsung’s procurement sources. Samsung’s entry-level smartphones rely heavily on batteries made by Ampere Technologies, BYD, and Navitas.
Moreover, the source pointed out that the batteries supplied by LG to Samsung may be produced at the Nanjing factory. The products will be transferred to ITM Semiconductor’s Vietnam factory, where they will be packaged and assembled with protection circuits, before being sent to Samsung’s smartphone factory.
