According to the latest report, South Korea said that after the US Department of Commerce requires companies in the supply chain to provide chip inventory and sales information, South Korean technology companies will provide some semiconductor data to the United States.

South Korea’s Ministry of Finance said in a statement on Sunday that South Korean companies are preparing to “voluntarily submit” relevant information, adding that South Korean technology giants have been negotiating with the United States on the scope of data submissions.

In September, the US Department of Commerce required companies in the semiconductor supply chain to fill out a questionnaire before November 8 to obtain information about ongoing chip shortages.

In the questionnaire, chip manufacturers were asked to comment on inventory, backlog, delivery time, procurement time, and the work they did to increase production. The U.S. Department of Commerce also requires information about major customers for each product.

Moreover, the U.S. request caused domestic controversy in South Korea, and critics condemned the U.S. request for commercial secrets. Previously, local reports stated that South Korean technology companies would only “partially comply” with information requirements.

South Korea’s Ministry of Finance said on Sunday that the South Korean government will consolidate its semiconductor supply chain partnership with the United States through communication.
