Previously, only Pixel devices were able to be used with Android Auto wirelessly, but Google has changed its tune with the release of Android 11.

Use Android Auto wirelessly

Now, if your smartphone has Android 11, it can take advantage of using Android Auto without any wires.

  • Connect your phone to your car radio with a USB cable.
  • Follow the on-screen prompts to complete the initial setup procedure.
  • Disconnect the USB cable.
  • The next time you get in your car, Android Auto wireless automatically connects your phone to your car.

The only catch here is that the head unit in your car must support wireless Android Auto.

That may be a bit frustrating, especially if you just replaced your head unit, but at least your next car stereo should support it.
