Xiaomi MIUI 12.5 Tip: Enable RAM Expansion feature in your smartphone
MIUI RAM Expansion feature is one of the latest functionality offered by Xiaomi. It was first arrived for closed beta testers months ago. Xiaomi Mi 10 Ultra was the first smartphone that tested the function before its wider availability. It is expected to be released for all users alongside MIUI 13.
It’s a function that converts part of the device’s internal storage to virtual RAM. Initially, the capacity was capped at 1GB but has now improved to 3GB. Depending on your device storage configuration, you get 1GB, 2GB, or 3GB virtual RAM.

As of now, both mid-range and sub-premium Xiaomi phones have got the feature. However, it will take up part of the storage space, thus, one should use it when the storage space is sufficient. The virtual expansion is effective when the smartphone has a small amount of RAM.
Well, it’s unclear whether that will improve the device’s performance, but it has been said to help during intensive gaming. Anyways, to take advantage of this feature, you will first have to enable it via your phone’s settings.
Fortunately, enabling the RAM Extension function in MIUI 12.5 is simple. To know about it, do check the steps given below.
How to enable RAM Extension Feature in MIUI 12.5
- Head over Settings
- Scroll Down and find Additional Settings
- Below you will see Memory Extension
- Enable the toggle, and you’re done.
It should be noted that if you don’t see the “Memory Extension” under additional settings, it means your device hasn’t got the feature yet. You will have to wait for Xiaomi to enable it in future updates.
