Apple iOS 17 avails Communication Safety feature widely

Apple is making Communication Safety available widely with iOS 17 upgrade. Besides, the previously opt-in feature will now be turned on by default for children who falls in the below-13 age category. All they need is to sign in to their Apple ID and be part of a Family Sharing group.

On the flip side, the feature enables parents to turn the feature off in the Settings app under Screen Time. To those who are unaware, Communication Safety came into existence in December 2021 but will now be available widely among consumers with the Apple iOS 17 upgrade.

So far, the feature is already accessible in countries like Australia, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the Netherlands, New Zealand, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, and the UK. As of now, the upcoming iOS versions will expand this ability across the globe.

The feature is mainly used to warn children when receiving or sending photos that contain inappropriate content in the Messages app. It further covers video content and also works for AirDrop content, FaceTime video messages, and Contact Posters in the Phone app.

When enabled, the feature blurs photos and videos containing nudity in apps, and the child will be warned about viewing sensitive content. The alert also provides children with ways to get help. Apple is further creating a new API available that will allow developers to support Communication Safety in their App Store apps.
