On December 8, the Xiaomi community released the new MIUI update announcement. The company is going to introduce a new version of MIUI – MIUI 12.5.
According to the announcement “In order to welcome the release of MIUI 12.5, the version will be suspended for a period of time from December 14th, and we will always believe that beautiful things are about to happen.” From the perspective of version naming, MIUI 12.5 should be an upgraded version of MIUI 12.

According to the usual practice, there will be several normal updates and upgrades of the stable version between every two major versions of MIUI. However, for the first time in a decade, MIUI stopped the development version before the intermediate version upgrade.
The MIUI 12.5 is expected to come with major features, reported Chinese media. In MIUI 12.5, the company will further upgrade and optimized animation design, security, and privacy.
Xiaomi released MIUI 12 with a brand-new motion system and visualization design. The newly launched super wallpaper breaks through the limitation of space and becomes the best choice for dynamic effects. In terms of privacy, MIUI 12 provides three functional modules to achieve all-round protection of users’ personal privacy data.
As per the latest information, the current number of Xiaomi mobile users is 368 million, and the company is now the 3rd best smartphone seller in the world.
There’s no information about the release but it is likely to come in early 2021.
What about MIUI 13?
Xiaomi will release the next major version of MIUI – MIUI 13 in 2021. Xiaomi hasn’t yet officially confirmed any news about the next major version.
