New server-side update fixes Google Pixel battery drain issue
Google is rolling out a server-side update for the Pixel devices that will ultimately fix the battery-draining issue. As per the new details, the problem has emerged due to the Google application but the company will resolve it with the latest firmware.
The story outline begins when the US tech giant released a fresh update for the Google app. While the build was beneficial for the respective application, it suddenly resulted in overheating and extreme battery drainage on Pixel handsets.
On inspecting the defect, the software team detected a backend change within the application that cause battery consumption on a subset of Android devices. Further, the impact of this problem was witnessed on phones running the latest app version and May 2023 security patch.
Moreover, the trouble mainly appeared for the Pixel 6 and 7 series. Most of the corresponding device owners even said that the battery life effectively cutting in half with the app update.
Thus, it was important to roll out an immediate fix for devices. Google said that this push won’t require any app or system builds. Perhaps, it is a server-side update for Google Pixel phones that will repair the battery drain issue instantly.

Here is what the manufacturer said:
“A recent Google App backend change unintentionally resulted in a subset of Android devices experiencing accelerated battery drain. We rolled out a fix shortly after becoming aware of the issue and impacted users should see their devices return to normal behavior immediately. This fix does not require an app update.”
