Software update support is essential for the adequate functioning of devices. Thus, to maintain the reliability and accuracy of its gadgets, the Chinese tech giant has decided to offer 3 major Android or MIUI upgrades and 4 years of security patches for some of the eligible Xiaomi, Redmi, and POCO devices.

In the year 2021, Xiaomi upgraded the software update policy and added 3 major Android upgrades support for selected devices launched after the year 2021. Therefore, before the firm revised its upgrade policy in 2022, the Xiaomi gadgets were only eligible for 1-2 major updates even if they are flagship, midrange, or entry-level.

In simple words, the devices launched with Android 11 or later out of the box are all eligible for three years of major updates and four years of security patches, which will take the user’s experience to a new level. Notably, this policy was introduced with Xiaomi’s flagship smartphones Xiaomi 11T  and Xiaomi 11T Pro.

Operating a device with long-term software support is important to make smartphones compete well on the market with the latest offerings, and to ensure users’ data on their devices is safe. Xiaomi uses the popular MIUI interface which is built over different and latest Android versions, however, Poco and Redmi also use the same software for their devices.
